About the Dust Generator

Create beautiful floating particle effects with the FX Labs Dust and Particle Generator. This tool renders hundreds of individually placed glowing particles with full control over count, size range, glow radius, spatial distribution, and color temperature. Adjust the horizontal and vertical spread to scatter particles across the full frame or concentrate them in a tight cluster. The rise parameter shifts the center of distribution upward to simulate embers floating from a fire or dust motes caught in an updraft. Clustering control groups particles together for a more organic, less uniform distribution that mimics how real dust and debris collects in air currents. The temperature-based color system maps each particle along a warm color ramp from deep red through orange to bright yellow-white, with a color variation control that introduces natural diversity across the particle field. Intensity and fade parameters let you control overall brightness and the softness of particle edges for anything from sharp pinpoint lights to soft dreamy bokeh circles. Every particle position and property is derived from the seed value, giving you complete reproducibility and the ability to generate unlimited unique arrangements. Export at up to 4K resolution as transparent PNG overlays, perfect for layering atmospheric depth into portrait photography, adding floating embers to campfire scenes, creating dreamy bokeh overlays for video production, generating particle textures for game engines, or adding magical sparkle effects to digital art and social media content.

How to Use

1

Set Particle Count & Size

Control how many particles appear and their size range from tiny dust motes to large bokeh circles.

2

Position & Distribute

Adjust spread, rise, and clustering to place particles exactly where you need them in the frame.

3

Dial in Color & Glow

Use temperature, color variation, intensity, and fade controls to set the look from warm embers to soft dust.

4

Export as PNG

Select up to 4K resolution, enable transparency, and download your particle overlay.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dust and Particle Generator can create floating dust motes, glowing embers, bokeh light circles, firefly effects, magical sparkles, and atmospheric depth particles. The temperature and glow controls let you shift between warm ember-like particles and soft neutral dust.

Yes. Spread X and Spread Y control how widely particles are distributed horizontally and vertically. The Rise parameter shifts the center of distribution upward, and the Clustering control groups particles together for more organic, non-uniform placement.

Temperature maps each particle along a warm color ramp. Low temperature values produce deep red and orange particles like cooling embers. High values shift toward bright yellow and white, simulating hot sparks or bright dust catching direct light. The Color Variation parameter adds natural diversity across particles.

Yes. Set Background to "Transparent" and export to get a PNG with only the glowing particles on a clear background. This is ideal for layering over photographs, video footage, or other artwork to add atmospheric depth without obscuring the underlying content.

Export at 720p (1280x720), 1080p (1920x1080), 1440p (2560x1440), or 4K (3840x2160). Higher resolutions are especially beneficial for particle effects since they preserve the fine detail and smooth glow gradients of small particles across the frame.

For bokeh-style circles, increase the Max Size to 0.02-0.04, set Glow Size to 3.0 or higher, and reduce particle Count to 50-150 for larger, more prominent circles. Lower the Intensity slightly and increase Fade for softer edges that mimic out-of-focus light points.

Yes. Export transparent PNG overlays and layer them over your timeline in After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or any video editor. For animated particles, generate multiple frames with sequential seed values and compile them into an image sequence for smooth motion.

Fade controls how quickly particle brightness falls off from center to edge. Low fade values create sharp, well-defined particles with clear boundaries. Higher fade values produce softer particles with gentle gradients that blend smoothly into the background, creating a more dreamy, atmospheric look.
